Robert Plant

I’ve always had the utmost musical respect for legendary Led Zeppelin frontman/ rock god Robert Plant, whose songs have been used in several movies. Until now. Zep is one of my all time fave bands, but Plant was apparently at some bar in the UK and didn’t like the music. Plant apparently said that Radiohead were “rhyming crap” and Red Hot Chili Peppers were “nursery rhymes”. He asked for Captain Beefheart, best-known for the experimental rock album Trout Mask Replica, produced by another rock legend, Frank Zappa. The video clip below is of a Captain Beefheart song, Electricity.

There’s some classic stuff there, but it would be an acquired taste for a generation that listens to Britney Spears, Spice Girls, and Justin Timberlake. But Plant saying what he did about Radiohead and the Chilis… Well, at least they don’t need the blood of small woodland creatures to stay alive.

Plant will get a soundtrack credit (Immigrant Song) for the 2008 documentary film Guitar Man. The doc includes some of the greatest guitar legends: Willie Nelson, Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Neal Schon, Johnny Winter, Bob Weir, Michael Indelicato, Narada Michael Wilson, Robin Trower, and Ronnie Montrose. Rex Allen Jr. is the narrator, and for some super strange reason, Steven Seagal is in it as well.
