Nicolas Cage, an excellent actor and also nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola, says he’s tired of being in blockbuster movies.
One of my frustrations is I have no control. I haven’t worked in a while, and it will be eight months before I start my next picture… I wonder if I am still interesting to watch.
I think you are, Nic, and it’s your versatility to be in different kinds of movies that I enjoy. I mean, it works for Will Smith, so why not you? (But Kathleen Turner doesn’t like you much.)
Well aside from the current WGA strike, I don’t understand why he doesn’t go into directing or even producing. Maybe it’s just not his thing.
Despite his comments, he was in four movies in 2007 (Ghost Rider, Grindhouse, Next, National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets), and will be in four movies in 2008 (Bangkok Dangerous, Knowing, Amarillo Slim, The Dance) and two in 2009 (Electric God, G-Force (voice)).
