Inception Reviews Mostly Positive

The “Inception” reviews are in… and mostly positive, despite a few who were less than impressed (maybe they were just confused?). If you’ve got “Inception” on your must-see list, you’re not alone, but are the Inception reviews enough to get your butt in a theater seat?

For the most part, critics have praised “Inception” – despite a running time of almost 2.5 hours and the possibility of needing second viewing to fully understand it – proving that it lives up to the hype of being, you know, a truly original concept (how refreshing!).

Here’s the rundown on some of Inception’s reviews… leave us a comment to let us know what you thought of Inception:

RottenTomatoes.com ranks Inception at 83% on the Tomatometer, with an average rating of 8.1/10.

Metacritic gives Inception a score of 76 (Generally Favorable Reviews), based on 39 critic reviews. 58 users, thus far, have earned Inception a 9.4 out of 10.

Variety, Justin Chang – “If Inception is a metaphysical puzzle, it’s also a metaphorical one: It’s hard not to draw connections between Cobb’s dream-weaving and Nolan’s filmmaking — an activity devoted to constructing a simulacrum of reality, intended to seduce us, mess with our heads and leave a lasting impression. Mission accomplished.”

Empire, Nev Pierce – “With physics-defying, thunderous action, heart-wringing emotion and an astonishing performance from DiCaprio, Nolan delivers another true original: welcome to an undiscovered country.”

Chicago Sun-Times, Roger Ebert – “Inception does a difficult thing. It is wholly original, cut from new cloth, and yet structured with action movie basics so it feels like it makes more sense than (quite possibly) it does.”

Time, Richard Corliss – “Inception is precisely the kind of brainy, ambitious, grand-scale adventure Hollywood should be making more of.”

Rolling Stone, Peter Travers – “In this wildly ingenious chess game, grandmaster Nolan plants ideas in our heads that disturb and dazzle. The result is a knockout. But be warned: Inception dreams big. How cool is that?”

Slate, Dana Stevens – “At the end of Inception, I hadn’t lived through the grueling emotional journey Nolan seemed to think I had, but I’d seen a bunch of cool images and admired some technically ambitious feats of filmmaking.”

The New York Times, A.O. Scott – “Though there is a lot to see in Inception, there is nothing that counts as genuine vision. Mr. Nolan’s idea of the mind is too literal, too logical, too rule-bound to allow the full measure of madness — the risk of real confusion, of delirium, of ineffable ambiguity — that this subject requires.”

New York Magazine, David Edelstein – “Inception manages to be clunky and confusing on four separate levels of reality.”

10 out of 10!!! Something that entertains on a level that Hollywood usually lacks. It is a movie that may require a second look…marketing genius. Thanks so much to Chris Nolan, the cast, and crew for a terrific ride on your cerebral roller coaster.

Inception was one of the smartest movies I have seen in a long time. Nolan took to an unexpected fantasy and convinced us of its reality. Those who could not appreciate this movie are obviously not cerebral enough to appreciate it. Best movie so far this year.

Christopher Nolan has really done something amazing with the film “Inception”. Not only is it a “bank heist” kind of movie, but it’s an action flick on par with “The Bourne Ultimatum” and a cerebral movie like “12 Monkeys” or “Brazil”. I went into this movie expecting something amazing because the trailers made it out to be something like a cross between “Dream Scape” and “The Matrix”, and I also knew that Christopher Nolan was writing and directing the film and Nolan just doesn’t do crappy film. I am happy to say that “Inception” far exceeded my expectations and even though it doesn’t pack an emotional punch like “Saving Private Ryan” or “Dream Life of Angels”, the quality of the story and the quality of the film-making easily put this film on my 10 best movies of all time. It’s rare these days to see CGI and action take a back seat to the story line, or to see a movie come to a conclusion that people may debate about for years to come. I can’t wait to see this one again, just to pick apart the pieces that I took in, but didn’t really fully understand. “Inception” is, in my opinion, is the kind of movie that makes people realize what a truly great art film making is. This is the kind of movie that makes you go to the movies in the first place. With “Inception”, Christopher Nolan makes other film makers, even some good ones, look like amateurs. I thought he was never going to write a movie better than “Memento”, and I am happy to say that I was dead wrong.

The story doesn’t live up to the intensity and drama of the movie. DiCaprio was fantastic. The film is enthralling but the story itself is flimsy, flimsy, flimsy. While I was thoroughly entertained, their isn’t much depth beyond what’s right before your eyes. When DiCaprio starts talking about how ideas change the world, you think you’re in for a truly profound, “Ah ha!” moment. You’re not. Just enjoy the ride. The wife, the kids, the son of the energy tycoon, it seemed like at least one of these was going to take us on some deep psychological or emotional journey. None of them do. But it’s definitely a great theatrical experience.

I love reading comments by self-proclaimed brainy people who believe those who did not like it as much “aren’t as cerebral.” Fact is, the movie is overrated. If DiCaprio wasn’t in it, the reviews would be different. It was very try-hard, far too much cheesy ’007′ action, and poor acting apart from Leo. 5/10 at best.

This was a fascinating and entertaining exercise of pop imagination and cgi filmaking. I felt entertained and thought provoked at the end. What has really surprised me though, is the unexpected residual efect this film has had on me. I have actually been experiencing “aware” dreaming since seeing Nolan’s film. Without getting into details, I have been switching dream scenes concsiously for the first time and have been cogniscent of being in a dream. It’s as if “Inception” was some kind of dream therapy, or stimulus. I’m kind of astonished. As entertainment I would have given this film high, if not great rating, but it seems to have become something other for me.

This movie was amazing and probably on my top 10 or 5 favorite movie list now. I loved it! I thought that it was very satisfying to watch beginning to end. I still think its a little confusing so I have to see it again, but it really sucked me in the whole time. I would recommend it to anyone.:)

I saw this flick at a drive in theater and then again in a regular cinema and I was impressed by the special effects but nothing more. The story is indeed complex, but just because a plot is overly intricate doesn’t mean it makes for a good movie, I respect the attempt at a thinker-type movie with serious action alongside it, but it resulted in a cacophony of shooting and nifty effects the likes of which I didn’t really enjoy.
