Hellboy II took the box office by storm over the weekend, pulling in $35.9 million during its debut weekend and earning the number 1 weekend film spot.

The Hellboy sequel, starring Ron Perlman in the title role, and directed by Guillermo del Toro (”Pan’s Labyrinth”) even bested box office superhero Hancock - no small feat.

Journey to the Center of the Earth, starring Brendan Fraser landed in third place with $20.6 million, while WALL-E and Wanted rounded out the top five.

The universally panned Eddie Murphy vehicle “Meet Dave” somehow managed to earn $5.3 million and take the number seven spot.

Hellboy is dependably fun; for sure that director has an amazing imagination, reminds me of his work in Pan’s Labyrinth
