Daryl Hannah was arrested yesterday during a mountaintop removal mining protest in Naoma, West Virginia. Daryl Hannah getting arrested is one way to get her name in the news!

Daryl Hannah and NASA scientist James Hansen were arrested during the rally, along with 31 people other people protesting. In total, there were several hundred protesters on site.

The State Police released all of the protesters after they were cited for “impeding traffic and obstructing an officer” – Daryl Hannah and the protest gang blocked a road near a Massey Energy Co. subsidiary’s coal plant.

The protesters also marched to the plant and tried to enter, but were blocked by coal miners shouting “Go Home!”

Daryl Hannah explained the mountaintop mining is “not necessary,” saying, “If you do it wisely, there are ways to use renewables. It’s realistic for everybody.”

Massey is the nation’s fourth-largest coal producer by revenue, with mines in West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky.
