Dakota Fanning & ‘Wizard of Oz’ – will Dakota Fanning fit the mold of Dorothy in a darker sequel of The Wizard of Oz?

Dakota Fanning and a Wizard of Oz pairing has been rumored, with Fanning taking on the role of a Dorothy relative in a sequel to the 1939 classic.

According to the film’s producer, Basil Iwanyk: “It will be set in the present day and feature Dorothy’s granddaughter.”

Co-producer Todd McFarlane has been planning the Oz re-do since 2007 and says of the plot, “You’ve still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place, but she’s much closer to the Ripley character from Alien than a helpless singing girl.”
