Check out the Couples Retreat trailer and then read on for the mostly unfavorable reviews…

It’s slim pickins for new films at the movie theaters this weekend – and while the cast and plot in Couples Retreat seem promising in the trailer, it’s getting a lot of negative reviews.

On Metacritic.com, Couples Retreat received a score of 24 out of 100, based on 25 critics’ reviews. Among them:

Entertainment Weekly scores 67: “Thanks to Vaughn, Favreau, and the stray sharp lines that pop out of everyone else, the film at least offers the lively sound of egos that still know how to swing.”

Roger Ebert gives it a 50: “Among the better things in the movie, I count Vaughn’s well-timed and smart dialogue.”

USA Today scores 38: “Tedious, unromantic, sophomoric and only sporadically funny.”

New York Post gives it a 0 (ouch!): “A schmaltzy, smutty and mean-spirited quasi-satire.”

At RottenTomatoes.com, Couples Retreat scores just 12% on the tomatometer, with 83 of the 94 reviews rotten.

Couples Retreat to me seems like the type of movie where they show all the funny parts in the trailer… only there’s really little in the trailer that gets a laugh. That’s not a good sign.
