Celebrity Political Support
The campaigning for the 2008 U.S. Presidential elections are in swing, with celebrities backing a number of political candidates in each party. Which celebrities are supporting which candidates? Oprah has openly and aggressively been supporting Barack Obama. What about the rest? This is just a bit of speculation, mixed in with actual fact.
Scarlett Johansson is also supporting Barack Obama (D) and even appeared in Iowa a few days ago in support. Also appearing in Iowa was Chuck Norris (Walker, Texas Ranger) and his wife, but he was supporting Mike Huckabee (R).
Bruce Willis has previously been a Republican supporter, and it’s my guess he votes for the party rather than the candidate. His ex-wife’s new hubby Ashton Kutcher supposedly dated both daughters of George W. Bush. Well, at least he partied with them sans Secret Service agents, so it’s quite possible he slipped at least one of them something special. No idea, though, which way he votes. But there’s no mystery which party Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger supports. (Weren’t Willis and Schwarzie in the restaurant/ cafe business a while back?)
It’s often easy to guess political affiliations, and I’m guessing Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will vote Democrat, even though distant relative Senator Obama turned down Brad’s offer of “backing”. (Then again, Obama is also distantly related to VP Dick Cheney.)
No doubt Denzel Washington is also a Democrat, though I can’t explain why I think that. (Anyone know either way?)
Dr. Phil is a diehard GWB supporter, and I’m guessing he’ll vote Republican this year as well. Britney Spears, whom he tried to help a few days ago after her meltdown last week, and on the request of Spears’ parents, was once taped endorsing GWB a few years back, so if she’s voting, it just might be Republican.
That’s probably the case for Paris Hilton as well. Someone made an interesting comment to me that all of the young starlets openly displaying nutty behavior in Hollywood, including driving drunk, appearing pantyless, etc., are all Republican supporters. I haven’t confirmed that yet, so it might be bunk. The same person made the comment that he feels much of Hollywood seriously want a Democrat back in power, though he didn’t explain why.
