Celebrity Deathmatch? Lindsay Lohan vs Keira Knightley

Well, not quite a “Deathmatch”, but Lindsay Lohan and Keira Knightley are both trying out for the role of heroine Catherine Earnshaw in a new version of Wuthering Heights. The movie is of course based on Emily Bronte’s mid-19th century novel of the same name.

Director John Maybury says he “wouldn’t count Keira out” but said the same about Lohan. Yeah, right. If you were to see a Victorian period movie, which actress do you think would be more effective, especially in terms of speech? Knightley, who has a real British accent, or Lohan? An actress who has an Oscar nomination (Knightley) or one who doesn’t, in a serious film?

On the other hand, as Maybury also pointed out, Knightley has already done several period pieces and may not want to get back into it. But she has that history behind her, and is easier to accept than Lohan in such a role.

Last year, our Popcrunch main site wrote that both actresses would be appearing together in the Dylan Thomas biopic Best Time of Our Lives, in a threesome scene with Matthew Rhys. But since then, the movie has changed title (now called The Edge of Love) and Sienna Miller has taken over the role of Caitlin MacNamara. It would have been a good transitional role for Lohan, but apparently Lohan could not get insurance due to her DUI charges and rehab, so she had to pull out.

Knightley will appear in The Edge of Love and The Duchess this year. Lohan will appear in Poor Things and Dare to Love Me this year.
