Julia Roberts entertained the audience of a Tom Hanks tribute by the Film Society of Lincoln Center by delivering an f-bomb laced speech to the popular actor – watch the video clip and sound off. Funny off-the-cuff stuff from Julia Roberts… or insulting for a Tom Hanks tribute?

In part, Julia Roberts said: “Alright well, it’s late and I’m paying my babysitter overtime and I have to pee. So Tom, everybody fucking likes you. All my bits are gone. Listen, I had lunch today with Rita, and her tits were here [motioned high] and her waist was here [motioned small] and her ass was like that [motioned high], so what can I tell you that’s new? Tom Hanks, what the fuck?”

Julia Roberts ragged on some of Tom Hanks’ films too… before getting to the gooey love stuff, so it wasn’t all potty mouth territory. It’s obvious the pair are close friends, but Julia Roberts’ speech seemed more like a roast than a Lincoln Center tribute.

Michael Keaton to Voice Ken in Toy Story 3

First – Toy Story 3 is in the works! How cool is that? Second – Michael Keaton is apparently onboard to voice Ken, the handsome boyfriend of Barbie (voiced by Jodi Benson). Benson was promoting The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning on DVD and confirmed that she’ll return for Toy Story 3 as the voice of Barbie, with Michael Keaton providing Ken’s voice.

Sounds like the whole Toy Story gang is on board for the third installment too – Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, Estelle Harris and John Ratzenberger.

Toy Story 3 is planned for release on June 18, 2010.

Stars: Please Let’s End the Writers’ Strike

Like Tom Hanks, George Clooney indicated last week that he’s eager to see the WGA writers’ strike end. To that end, Clooney has even offered to mediate. He wants to set up a strike mediation panel that would also include Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and John Wells (ex-WGA president and executive producer of the ER TV series).

At this point I don’t care who gets involved, as long as they get something done. Talks seem to be stalled, as I haven’t heard of any progress other than the individual studio agreements. The strike has already caused the traditional Golden Globes ceremony – which would have been held yesterday (Sun Jan 13) – to be called off and replaced with a star-less and unentertaining “press conference”. Now, The Oscars are threatened. Let’s hope Clooney and company succeed. (Clooney recently donated $25,000 of his own money to the strike.)

Clooney is currently in Michael Clayton and Oceans Thirteen, and will appear in two films in 2008 (Leatherheads, Burn After Reading) and one in 2009 (The Fantastic Mr. Fox, animation). Hanks is currently in Charlie Wilson’s War, and will appear in at least The Great Buck Howard (2008) and Angels & Demons (2009). He’s rumored to be appearing in Boone’s Lick (2008) and Fahrenheit 451 (2009).

Tom Hanks and Charlie Wilson’s War: Dud Movie or Sleeper Hit?

The movie Charlie Wilson’s War, despite the title, is as much about the war of politics in Washington and the USA in general than about Afghanistan and military spending. Oh, and it’s a comedy of sorts. It stars the inimitable Tom Hanks and America’s Sweetheart, Julia Roberts – who was 3 months pregnant while filming, even while wearing the two-piece bikini while emerging from a backyard pool.

The Universal Pictures movie, which also stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, opens this Friday, Dec 21st. See the NY Times for a more indepth review.
