Wow. It was no surprise to see that Heath Ledger won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar award for his role as The Joker in the Dark Knight – but the moving acceptance speech by Heath Ledger’s family (dad Kim Ledger, mom and sister) was certainly a special moment. 2009 SAG In Memoriam Tribute Video – Heath Ledger Not Included

The 2009 SAG “In Memoriam” Tribute video presented at the January 25 Screen Actors Guild awards did not include Heath Ledger to many people’s dismay. Heath Ledger was included in the 2008 SAG In Memoriam tribute, despite the fact that he died in 2008.

Heath Ledger won a 2009 Screen Actors Guild award for Male Actor in a Supporting Role.

Heath Ledger’s amazing performance as the Joker was honored at the 2009 Golden Globes, where he was named winner of the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor.

Heath Ledger received a standing ovation from the audience, a clip of his performance was show and Christopher Nolan gave a hearfelt speech in Ledger’s honor.

Warner Bros. Re-Releasing The Dark Knight in January for Oscars

Warner Bros. has announced that they will re-release The Dark Knight in theaters in January – a play that no doubt has something to do with winning Oscars as it puts the Batman sequel back into Academy Awards voters’ minds again.

Oscar buzz has surrounded The Dark Knight, with likely noms to go to the director, producers and Heath Ledger, for his turn as the Joker.

The re-release of The Dark Knight in January would also help bump up sales – possibly getting it to the $1 billion worldwide mark.

Could Cher Play Catwoman in the Next Batman?

The rumors that Cher could play Catwoman in the next Batman seems a little far-fetched to me, but maybe it will happen.

UK’s Telegraph is reporting that Cher may play Catwoman in the next Batman film, starring Christian Bale.

According to a studio executive:

“Cher is Nolan’s (director) first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years. The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry’s purring creations.”

Christian Bale Will Not Be Charged for Alleged Assault Against Mom, Sister

Sounds like this whole dealio with Christian Bale’s mom and sister accusing him of assault will blow over – Christian Bale will not be charged for the July 21 assault incident.

The reason for dropping the charges? Officials say there is insufficient evidence. At most, Christian Bale is facing a caution.

Prosecutors at England’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have reviewed the case and released a statement, in part that says: “Taking all the factors into consideration, the decision has been taken that there is insufficient evidence to afford a realistic prospect of conviction, and accordingly the police have been advised that no further action should be taken against Mr. Bale.”

The Dark Knight Continues to Rule Box Office; Beats Pineapple Express

Pineapple Express looked like it was heading towards eclipsing The Dark Knight at the weekend box office – but you can’t keep Batman down, it seems. The Dark Knight continued to rule the box office – in its fifth week in theaters!

The Dark Knight earned $26 million over the weekend, bringing the gross to $441.5 million. That plants Dark Knight at the number three spot for the all-time box office performers.

Pineapple Express smoked out the other competition though, earning $22.4 million for its three-day opening and grabbing $30.7 million since its Wednesday release.

Johnny Depp Rumored to Play Riddler in Next Batman Movie

With the box office success of The Dark Knight, things are already rolling on the next installment of the Batman series – and Johnny Depp is rumored to take on the role of the Riddler.

Is the Johnny Depp/Ridler rumor true though?

A source has commented that Batman producers “are convinced that the role of the Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny’s a pro. He’ll be able to take direction from director Chris Nolan and still make the character his own.”

Here’s hoping the Batman rumors are true… and Johnny Depp fills the Riddler role.

Dark Knight Breaks Records with $300M in 10 Days

The Dark Knight continues to break box office records… the latest accomplishment? Exceeding the $300 million mark in just 10 days.

The last record holder that busted the $300 million line was 2006’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which snagged $300 million after 16 days.

But will The Dark Knight grab the highest-grossing film honor (besting current record holder Titanic)? Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers, thinks it just might break that record too.
