Rachel McAdams Rumored to Play Black Cat Villain in Spider-Man 4

So far, this is just a rumor… but the buzz is that Rachel McAdams will play the villainess Black Cat in the upcoming Spider-Man 4.

Black Cat is not only a villain, but a love interest for Peter Parker too (as Felicia Hardy). Spider-Man 4 is due in theaters in 2011.

Spider-Man 4 and 5 Sequels Planned; Tobey Maguire to Star, Sam Raimi to Direct

Sounds like the power team of actor Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi will be back for Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 sequels. The pair are currently in talks with Sony to make the next two installments of the popular comic book franchise.

This puts to rest the rumors that another actor would play the role of Spider-Man in upcoming sequels.

A studio spokesman commented, “The studio never considered any other actor. Tobey [Maguire] was our only choice and the only person we’ve discussed the role with.”

Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 will likely shoot back-to-back starting in fall 2009, with a release date in May 2011 for Spider-Man 4.

Spider-Man Spinoff “Venom,” Starring Topher Grace Being Planned

Check it out – a Spider-Man spin-off is in the works, featuring the Venom character that Topher Grace played in Spider-Man 3.

Will a Spider-Man spin-off work? And will they cast Topher Grace in “Venom” – or hire another actor to take over the role?

No word yet on a Venom release date.

Sam Raimi to Direct Disney Superhero Film “The Transplants”

Sam Raimi, the director of the “Spider-Man” films, will be directing an upcoming Disney superhero film called “The Transplants.”

“The Transplants” comes from writers Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson, who brought you “Not Another Teen Movie,” so expect plenty of comedy.

Sam Raimi has also directed, among other things, “The Evil Dead” and “Army of Darkness.”

Spider-Man 4 to Arrive in Theaters May 2011

Fans of the Spider-Man franchise have quite a wait ahead of them for the fourth installment of the web-slinger: Spider-Man 4 is expected to arrive in theaters in May 2011.

Still up in the air is the casting for Spider-Man 4 – will Tobey Maguire return to the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man? Or will another actor (Patrick Fugit, Michael Angarano) take on the part?

At present, there is no finished screenplay, but rather a strong hope that Spider-Man 4 could be completed in the next three years.

Patrick Fugit Rumored to Take on Spider-Man, Replace Tobey Maguire

Spider-Man 4 and 5 are rumored to be in the works, however, it’s being reported that Tobey Maguire will likely not return for additional installments of Spider-Man. Who will replace Tobey Maguire? Almost Famous star Patrick Fugit is the rumored golden boy that would play Peter Parker/Spider Man, although no offers have yet been made.

Patrick Fugit has also been in Spun and Wristcutters. Do you think he could take on Peter Parker/Spider Man? He certainly has the right look and is a good actor, so this seems like an ideal choice.

The Spider-Man producers are also rumored to be considering Michael Angarano, who has appeared in Lords of Dogtown, Sky High and The Forbidden Kingdom. To me, he’ll always be Jack’s son on Will & Grace. Michael Angarano played the younger version of Tobey Maguire’s character, Red Pollard, in Seabiscuit.

Then again, many are guessing/hoping that the allure of the big bucks will bring Tobey Maguire back to the role. Time will tell.
