From the “this seems like a bad idea file” – Tom Cruise and John Travolta are reportedly signing on to star in a Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid remake. Seriously? Trying to replace Robert Redford and Paul Newman?

Some remakes should never happen – and this is one of them. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a classic, not to be messed with. And certainly not by Cruise and Travolta.

Robert Redford Comments on Paul Newman’s Death

Robert Redford lost an important friend in his life when Paul Newman died from cancer Friday. When Robert Redford and Paul Newman were on the big screen (”Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Sting”), it was pure magic.

Robert Redford had this comment about Paul Newman’s passing: “There is a point where feelings go beyond words. I have lost a real friend. My life — and this country — is better for his being in it.”

Paul Newman Dead at Age 83, Lost Battle with Cancer

News broke this morning that legendary actor Paul Newman is dead at age 83. Paul Newman lost his battle with cancer and died Friday at age 83.

While no other details are yet known, Paul Newman’s spokeswoman Marni Tomljanovic did confirm that Newman died Friday from cancer.

Among Paul Newman’s many accomplishments were nominations for 10 Academy Awards, including a win for the 1987 film “The Color of Money.” Newman also picked up two honorary Oscars for his film career.

Paul Newman was also known as a philanthropist, race car driver and activist. His film credits include “Hud,” “Cool Hand Luke,” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Hustler,” “The Verdict,” “The Sting,” “Absence of Malice,” “Road to Perdition” and Pixar’s “Cars.”

Paul Newman had long been rumored to be battling cancer, and died Friday at his farmhouse near Westport, Connecticut with family and close friends nearby.

Finally, the Paul Newman lung cancer rumor has been put to rest. Paul Newman’s rep told E! News that the Paul Newman cancer buzz is “not true.”

The lung cancer rumors starting gaining steam when Paul Newman backed out of directing the play Our Town due to illness. The picture above, of Paul Newman and Martha Stewart at a recent event, fueled the cancer rumors even more.

Glad to hear that there was no truth to the lung cancer rumors and that Paul Newman is in good health!

Paul Newman Lung Cancer Rumors True?

Here’s one that I refuse to believe until it’s confirmed by a reliable source – rumors are swirling that film icon Paul Newman is suffering from lung cancer. Paul Newman is pictured above at a May 2008 event with Martha Stewart.

The story comes from the National Enquirer, who “reports” that a friend of Paul Newman said, “We have known he is seriously ill for several weeks but his loved ones are being very protective and saying very little.”

A cancer patient also said that Paul Newman was seen at the hospital: “He’s been there a lot, he’s even worked out in the waiting room, doing the squat thrusts. Last time, he was in there he had a long beard. Joanne is there waiting for him and being very sweet with the assistants.”

So, is the rumor about Paul Newman suffering from lung cancer true? The actor pulled out of an adaptation of “Of Mice and Men,” which raised a few eyebrows. I’m still waiting on the official word though.
