Metacritic.com has Twilight New Moon reviews scoring an average of 45 out of 100, based on 27 critic reviews, while RottenTomatoes.com gives New Moon 29% on the Tomatometer. Ouch!

Where the Wild Things Are reviews are coming in, and so far… so good. For the most part.

Director Spike Jonze is under the microscope of the critics and and fans of Maurice Sendak’s beloved children’s book, so some may be scrutinizing Where the Wild Things Are more than others.

Metacritic.com has given Where the Wild Things Are an average of 70 (generally favorable reviews) based on 32 critics reviews, while RottenTomatoes.com has the film resting at 67% on the Tomatometer.

Here’s a rundown of some of the critics reviews for Where the Wild Things Are:

Sara Vilkomerson, NY Observer: “This one is certainly not going to be for the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs crowd. I can’t imagine any young kid seeing it, not just because parts of it are dark and kind of scary, but because I can’t imagine any small fry having the attention span to stick with it.”

Lisa Schwarzbaum, EW: “Profoundly beautiful and affecting, Where the Wild Things Are is a breath-
taking act of artistic transubstantiation. From Maurice Sendak’s beloved picture book about a rambunctious little boy named Max and the kingdom of untamed creatures who adopt him as their like-minded king, filmmaker Spike Jonze has made a movie that is true to Sendak’s unique sensibilities and simultaneously true to Jonze’s own colorful instincts for anarchy. Gene Shallit at the Today show gives a very positive Monsters vs. Aliens review – and that guys doesn’t like anything, so it looks like it’s worth taking the family out to see Monsters vs. Aliens.

Metacritic.com gives Watchmen a score of 57 out of 100, based on reviews from 38 critics. Some Watchmen review highlights:

Kyle Smith, New York Post – Score 100: “Director Zack Snyder’s cerebral, scintillating follow-up to “300″ seems, to even a weary filmgoer’s eye, as fresh and magnificent in sound and vision as “2001″ must have seemed in 1968, yet in its eagerness to argue with itself, it resembles “A Clockwork Orange.”"

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times – Score 100: “It’s a compelling visceral film — sound, images and characters combined into a decidedly odd visual experience that evokes the feel of a graphic novel. It seems charged from within by its power as a fable; we sense it’s not interested in a plot so much as with the dilemma of functioning in a world losing hope.”

Richard Corliss, Time – Score 80: “Watchmen has moments of greatness. It proves again that the action movie is where the best young Hollywood brains have gone to bring flesh to their fantasies.”

Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly – Score 67: “Even Watchmen fanatics may be doomed to a disappointment that results from trying to stay THIS faithful to a comic book.”

Devin Gordon, Newsweek – Score 40: “Speaking as an admirer, but not an apostle, of the graphic novel, I thought the Watchmen movie was confusing, maddeningly inconsistent and fighting a long, losing battle to establish an identity of its own.”

The Hangover stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis as buddies who have one wild ride of a Las Vegas bachelor party.

Associated Press movie critic Christy Lemire blasts Tom Cruise’s performance in her review of Valkyrie, saying:

“…Cruise undermines the potential of “Valkyrie” at every turn. He’s outclassed and outmatched by every member of the strong supporting cast, any of whom would have been more believable as Stauffenberg: Kenneth Branagh, Tom Wilkinson, Terence Stamp and Bill Nighy as fellow German officers, even Eddie Izzard, who’s a unique and unexpected choice.”
