On a slow news day, it’s nice to get a little sneak peek look at the characters of the upcoming Iron Man 2 – check out the cover of Entertainment Weekly, featuring Iron Man 2’s Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow and Mickey Rourke as Whiplash.

Iron Man 2 hits theaters in May 2010.

uSA Today posted this first look at Mickey Rourke as Whiplash in next summer’s Iron Man 2. Check out the picture of Rourke above, where we get some idea of how the Russian villain will face off against hero Iron Man.

Director Jon Favreau says of Whiplash’s suit: “The technologies are definitely related, and that’s part of the core theme of the film,” saying Whiplash “has constructed his own version of a suit.”

“The Wrestler” star Mickey Rourke went head to head with WWE’s Chris Jericho at Sunday’s “WrestleMania 25″ event… and Rourke walked away a winner.

It’s official – Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke have been cast in Iron Man 2, opposite Robert Downey Jr. As previously rumored, Scarlett Johansson will take on the role of Black Widow, while Mickey Rourke has been cast as Russian villain Whiplash.

Iron Man 2 is scheduled for a May 2010 release, and will co-star Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Don Cheadle as Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes.

Is this for real? Watch this video clip of Mickey Rourke and wrestler Chris Jericho from Larry King Live the other night. Is Chris Jericho really that big of a douche?

In the video clip, Chris Jericho says of Mickey Rourke:

“I think he did make a mistake on the red carpet at the SAG Awards when he mentioned Wrestlemania and he called me out, because if he got his wish and had a confirmation with me at Wrestlemania, I think the ending of the Jericho/Rourke movie would not turn out very well for Mr. Rourke, as it did in The Wrestler.”

Mickey Rourke, who is up for an Academy Award for his role in The Wrestler commented:

“It’s not my world. I was a professional fighter. Would I box him in a boxing ring or a bare knuckle match? Yes. Wrestling, that’s his role. That’s what this man does.”

And Chris Jericho added:

“I’ll be waiting, Mr. Rourke….I’ll be waiting.”

Seriously? This can’t be real.

Mickey Rourke is definitely making a comeback since his amazing turn in The Wrestler – he and the equally amazing Sam Rockwell are in talks to play villains in “Iron Man 2.” Woah – Rourke, Rockwell, Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr.? Sign me up.
