Popstar Madonna, aka Madonna Louise Ciccone, hasn’t exactly had an enormous movie career, with a few huge award-winning exceptions such as Evita. She has appeared in numerous productions and been credited as a performer in over a hundred, written one (2008: I Am Because We Are) but only directed one movie.
The comedy/drama Filth and Wisdom, which she’s producing, is also her directorial debut. The 30-minute short film is in post-production and about to do the festival circuit, including the Berlin Film Festival in February 2008. No commercial release date has been set yet.
Should be interesting to find out what director/ producer husband Guy Ritchie thinks of this turn of events. I’ve never been much of a fan of his work (Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Star, Swept Away, Revolver), but the incoherent mumbling of Brad Pitt’s character in Snatch kind of grew on me after watching it many times. (Though he really got the whole Gypsy thing all wrong, as far as I’m concerned.)
