Terrence Howard Recast in Iron Man 2 – Financial and Performance Related

More details about Terrence Howard being recast in Iron Man 2 has been revealed – it was originally thought that Howard was too difficult to work with, but now insiders are revealing that he was the highest paid of all of the actors in Iron Man because he was signed first to the film.

Other reasons for Terrence Howard being bumped from the Iron Man sequel include his performance in this original, which apparently led to a lot of editing and reshoots. Director Jon Favreau has not yet commented on this rumor.

Don Cheadle will replace Terrence Howard as Col. Jim Rhodes.

Robert Downey Jr. to Reprise Role of Iron Man in The Avengers

Robert Downey Jr. will return as Iron Man in the Marvel Studios superhero film The Avengers, according to Variety.

Robert Downey Jr. has made a deal with Marvel Studios that will include two more Iron Man films as well as appearing as Iron Man in The Avengers.

The Avengers will include Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America and Thor and is set to hit theaters in July 2011.

Don Cheadle to Replace Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2

Sounds like Terrence Howard wasn’t offered enough money to sign on to Iron Man 2 – Don Cheadle will replace Howard in the summer blockbuster sequel.

Terrence Howard played Jim Rhodes in Iron Man, best friend to Tony Stark/Iron Man as well as future armor-clad hero War Machine. Don Cheadle is a pretty cool replacement though.

Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow will reprise their roles in the sequel, while Jon Favreau will return as director.

Iron Man DVD Release Set for September 30

The summer blockbuster “Iron Man” is expected to land on DVD pretty soon – fans of the Robert Downey Jr. flick can grab their copy of “Iron Man” on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on September 30.

“Iron Man” is the second-highest grossing film of the year, with earnings of $315 million.

Iron Man’s two-disc “Ultimate Edition” DVD or Blu-ray features a seven-part making-of documentary and a six-part feature on the origins of the Marvel superhero.

Also check out extras like Robert Downey Jr’s screen test, deleted scenes, extended scenes and more.Other extras include a documentary on the film’s visual effects; Robert Downey Jr.’s original screen test; deleted and extended scenes; a photo gallery of concept art; and behind-the-scenes images on the set.

A single-disc version of “Iron Man” will also be released.

Visual Effects Artist Stan Winston Dead at Age 62; Stan Winston Dies of Cancer

A sad day for fans of Oscar-winning visual effects artist Stan Winston — the special-effects genius died yesterday after suffering from cancer. Stan Winston was 62.

For those unfamiliar with the name Stan Winston, his visual effects resume was nothing short of spectacular. Stan Winston’s Oscar winning work for visual effects includes 1986’s “Aliens, “1992’s “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” and 1993’s “Jurassic Park.”

Stan Winston also worked on Terminator, Predator, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Forever, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and A.I.: Artificial Intelligence.

Stan Winston’s most recent work was creating the suits worn by Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man and his work on the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future begins.

Stan Winston suffered for seven years from multiple myeloma cancer, according to a representative from Stan Winston Studio.

Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull Pulls $126 Million at Box Office

Well, what did you expect? Naturally, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the big winner at the box office during its opening weekend — earning $126 million over its first four days.

With this momentum, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is expected to be the second biggest Memorial Day movie opening, according to studio estimates.

Here’s how it breaks down: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull grossed $101 million from Friday to Sunday, with an additional $25 million from its Thursday opening. It’s expected to pull in an additional $25 million on Monday.

So, who’s the top box office champ? Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End snagged $139.8 million for its Friday through Monday Memorial Day weekend opening; $153 million with the Thursday prior included.

Runners-up at the 2008 Memorial Day weekend box office include “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” and “Iron Man.”

Plans for Iron Man Sequel, Other Marvel Comics Hitting the Big Screen

Not surprisingly, plans for a sequel to the uber successful Iron Man are already in the works — Iron Man 2 is expected to hit theaters April 30, 2010.

And more Marvel comics will be hitting the big screen too — Thor, with a June 4, 2010 release date, The First Avenger: Captain America, due in theaters May 5, 2011, The Avengers (July 2011) and Ant-Man (no release date available).

Naturally, this early in the game, no announcements about casting the new Marvel comic films have been made.

Iron Man Snags Great Reviews

Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr. (and directed by Jon Favreau) is expected to have a colossal opening weekend. But are the Iron Man reviews any good — is it really worth seeing?

The anwser – yes. The Internet is buzzing today with Iron Man movie reviews and most peg it as a great Marvel comic book film with excellent performances by the actors, most notably Robert Downey Jr in the title role.

Take a look at Metacritic.com, which rates Iron Man as an 80 out of 100 (generally favorable reviews) from 31 reviews. Metacritic users gave Iron Man even more favorable reviews — rating it 8.9 out of 10.
