It’s been rumored that Chace Crawford would take over for Zac Efron in the starring role in a Footloose remake – and now it’s official.
Paramount confirmed the casting news with Usweekly.com, saying, “Chace Crawford will play the lead role of Ren McCormack in the film Footloose.”
Ren was played by Kevin Bacon in the 1984 original film.
Fans of “Footloose” can check out the remake when it’s released June 18, 2010… only no star has yet been cast in the rework to be directed by Kenny Ortega. Zac Efron was originally supposed to take on the role made famous by Kevin Bacon, but dropped out because he’s SO over musicals.
Kenny Ortega, who also directed the High School Musical movies, said the new Footloose will feature new songs in addition to the original tunes.
With Zac Efron taking a pass on the Footloose remake, it’s time to look for another talented hot young guy to fill Kevin Bacon’s dancing shoes. Enter TV’s “Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford.
