Wow, talk about the role of a lifetime – Eddie Murphy has been tapped to play comedian Richard Pryor in a new biopic from writer/director Bill Condon. Murphy and Condon worked together on 2006’s “Dreamgirls.”
Eddie Murphy has long idolized Richard Pryor, who appeared in Murphy’s 1989 film “Harlem Nights.” No doubt there will be plenty of drama for Eddie Murphy to dig deep into with the role, as Pryor’s life had it’s ups and downs (including drug/alcohol abuse, broken marriages and illness).

The Sun is reporting that Eddie Murphy has signed on to play The Riddler in the latest installment of the Batman movie franchise. Oh, hell noooo! Is there any truth to the Eddie Murphy/The Riddler rumor?
It seems a stretch that Batman director Christopher Nolan would even consider Eddie Murphy for one of his fine films… but we’ll see how this one plays out.
The Sun reports that Eddie Murphy will play The Riddler in the newest Batman sequel, using the working title “Gotham,” and set for a 2010 release.
Other Batman casting rumors include Shia LaBeouf as Rob and Rachel Weisz as Catwoman.

Sounds like Eddie Murphy is as disinterested in his new film “Meet Dave” as the genereal public is. Eddie Murphy blew off the L.A. premiere of “Meet Dave.” He better have had a good excuse.
Well, according to producer David T. Friendly told People, “He’s not here because he’s doing a movie and shooting – he goes back-to-back-to-back. Eddie, he’ll never admit it, but he loves to work. And I think work keeps him happy.”

Oh, now that’s just plain creepy. A giant Eddie Murphy head promoting his latest dud “Meet Dave” is standing in Times Square. The 15-foot-tall Eddie Murphy head is currently on a promotional tour to grab more interest in the film – you can even climb inside. Which is kind of weird, actually.

Eddie Murphy told Extra that he plans to retire soon, making “Meet Dave” one of his last films.

Katie Holmes is said to have walked out of a Scientology meeting out of embarrassment about husband Tom Cruise’s video mess, and apparently because of Mad Money, which he supposedly told her to make and which dropped to 10th in the box office receipts for last weekend. Eddie Murphy can’t seem to catch a break these days. First his wedding ceremony with Tracey Edmonds on an island near Bora Bora was considered invalid under French law. Then they broke up only a few short weeks after returning to the U.S.
Now there’s word going around that Spice Girl Mel B (Melanie Brown), with whom he was proven to have fathered a child, is demanding a US$9M house in Malibu as well as living expenses for 18 years. Oh, and she supposedly told him she was using some sort of contraption to prevent pregnancy but she somehow still got pregnant even though they apparently only had sex three times.
Mel B must really need the money because after the Spice Girls cancelled some important dates in their reunion tour due to lack of ticket sales, she put her black Mercedes up for sale. Maybe Britney can lend her one, since Miss Toxic is buying a second Mercedes.
The ladies’ man Eddie Murphy reportedly wed Tracey Edmonds on New Year’s Day near Bora Bora in a private ceremony. They’ve been dating for about a year and were in engaged in July 2007.
Edmonds is a film producer, with Chilled in Miami scheduled for 2009. (Marrying film producers must be a trend, as Jimmy Fallon just married Nancy Juvonen.)
Murphy will be appearing in three movies in 2008 (Starship Dave, NowhereLand, and an untitled Brett Ratner project), one in 2009 (untitled Romeo and Julie project) and one in 2010 (Shrek Goes Fourth, voice). Starship Dave opens May 30th. A video clip from the filming is below.
