In non-surprising movie box office news, Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana: The Movie was the big winner over the weekend. Disney’s tween hit scored $34 million for the weekend.

Hannah Montana: The Movie beat the competition by a mile(y) – Fast and Furious earned $28.8 million, while Monsters vs Aliens took in $22.6million.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop Tops Box Office Earnings

Must have been a slow weekend at the movies – Paul Blart: Mall Cop topped the box office earnings. Check out Kevin James, running with the big dogs (Clint Eastwood, Brad Pitt)!

Paul Blart: Mall Cop made $33.8 million, with an expected $40 million over the four day weekend.

Gran Torino, My Bloody Valentine 3-D, Notorious and Hotel for Dogs rounded out the weekend’s top 5.

Nicolas Cage’s Bangkok Dangerous Tops Worst Box Office Weekend

Oh, how Nicolas Cage has fallen – while his new movie, Bangkok Dangerous, was the top earner at the box office over the weekend, that’s not saying much. Bangkok Dangerous only took in $7.8 million – the lowest gross for a number one movie in five years!

The past weekend was, in fact, the worst box office weekend of 2008.

The Dark Knight Continues to Rule Box Office; Beats Pineapple Express

Pineapple Express looked like it was heading towards eclipsing The Dark Knight at the weekend box office – but you can’t keep Batman down, it seems. The Dark Knight continued to rule the box office – in its fifth week in theaters!

The Dark Knight earned $26 million over the weekend, bringing the gross to $441.5 million. That plants Dark Knight at the number three spot for the all-time box office performers.

Pineapple Express smoked out the other competition though, earning $22.4 million for its three-day opening and grabbing $30.7 million since its Wednesday release.

Dark Knight Breaks Records with $300M in 10 Days

The Dark Knight continues to break box office records… the latest accomplishment? Exceeding the $300 million mark in just 10 days.

The last record holder that busted the $300 million line was 2006’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which snagged $300 million after 16 days.

But will The Dark Knight grab the highest-grossing film honor (besting current record holder Titanic)? Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers, thinks it just might break that record too.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army Earns $35.9 Million Box Office, Number 1 Weekend Film

Hellboy II took the box office by storm over the weekend, pulling in $35.9 million during its debut weekend and earning the number 1 weekend film spot.

The Hellboy sequel, starring Ron Perlman in the title role, and directed by Guillermo del Toro (”Pan’s Labyrinth”) even bested box office superhero Hancock – no small feat.

Journey to the Center of the Earth, starring Brendan Fraser landed in third place with $20.6 million, while WALL-E and Wanted rounded out the top five.

The universally panned Eddie Murphy vehicle “Meet Dave” somehow managed to earn $5.3 million and take the number seven spot.

Hancock is Weekend Box Office Superhero – Snags $107.3 Million

Will Smith continues to be the fourth of July weekend box office champ – his “Hancock” swept the box office, earning $66 million over the weekend. Since its opening on Tuesday night, Hancock has raked in $107.3 million.

To say that Will Smith has the magic touch when it comes to Fourt of July ticket sales is an understatement – Hancock is his fifth movie to open at number one over the holiday weekend.

“WALL-E,” “Wanted,” “Get Smart” and “Kung Fu Panda” rounded out the top five at the box office.

Wall-E Rakes in $62.5 Million, Wins Box Office Gold

It was a big weekend for the little Pixar robot Wall-E – the film grabbed the number one spot at the box office, raking in an estimated $62.5 million in ticket sales over its first three days.

Wall-E’s box office win is nothing new for Pixar, who scored its ninth consecutive number one. That’s a pretty impressive track record.

Wall-E’s movie goers were in good company with action flick lovers – Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy held steady at number two, grabbing $51.1 million.

Overall, ticket sales were at an all time high over the weekend – the box office teaming of Wall-E and Wanted certainy helped bring the box office numbers to its highest level of the year.

Get Smart landed at number three, while Kung Fu Panda and The Incredible Hulk rounded out the top five.

Get Smart is the Weekend Box Office Champ

In a surprise to no one, the hotly anticipated summer comedy “Get Smart” was the big winner at the box office – securing first place with $39.2 million.

Get Smart stars Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway in the big screen adaptation of the 1960s TV show.

Mike Myers’ The Love Guru also opened over the weekend, but with poor reviews, the comedy only landed in the fourth place spot, earning $14 million.

Kung Fu Panda held its own, taking second place (with a total of $155.6 million so far) and The Incredible Hulk was third with $21.6 million.
