
In non-surprising movie box office news, Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana: The Movie was the big winner over the weekend. Disney’s tween hit scored $34 million for the weekend.
Hannah Montana: The Movie beat the competition by a mile(y) – Fast and Furious earned $28.8 million, while Monsters vs Aliens took in $22.6million.

Oh, how Nicolas Cage has fallen – while his new movie, Bangkok Dangerous, was the top earner at the box office over the weekend, that’s not saying much. Bangkok Dangerous only took in $7.8 million – the lowest gross for a number one movie in five years!
The past weekend was, in fact, the worst box office weekend of 2008.

Pineapple Express looked like it was heading towards eclipsing The Dark Knight at the weekend box office – but you can’t keep Batman down, it seems. The Dark Knight continued to rule the box office – in its fifth week in theaters!

Hellboy II took the box office by storm over the weekend, pulling in $35.9 million during its debut weekend and earning the number 1 weekend film spot.
The Hellboy sequel, starring Ron Perlman in the title role, and directed by Guillermo del Toro (”Pan’s Labyrinth”) even bested box office superhero Hancock – no small feat.
Journey to the Center of the Earth, starring Brendan Fraser landed in third place with $20.6 million, while WALL-E and Wanted rounded out the top five.
The universally panned Eddie Murphy vehicle “Meet Dave” somehow managed to earn $5.3 million and take the number seven spot.

“The Incredible Hulk” had a great opening weekend – raking in $54.5 million at the box office and besting Kung Fu Panda (at number 2) and The Happening (number 3).
Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers commented on the weekend opening, saying “The [Incredible] Hulk got a second chance, got angry and came back with a vengeance.
