No doubt if it’s true that Megan Fox will be wearing the classic leather catsuit, people will be lined up around the corner to check it out at their local theater.

Christian Bale and Michael Caine are also rumored to reprise their roles, with director Christopher Nolan returning again. The latest Batman is looking at a 2011 release.

Does Megan Fox have the chops to play Catwoman? She sure as hell has the body.

And now news that Batman 3 is in the works is spreading like wildfire.

Gary Oldman told the crown, “The next Batman is shooting next year. It’s at least two years away. But you didn’t hear it from me.”

The newest Batman film in the series would hit theaters in 2011.

It seems a stretch that Batman director Christopher Nolan would even consider Eddie Murphy for one of his fine films… but we’ll see how this one plays out.

The Sun reports that Eddie Murphy will play The Riddler in the newest Batman sequel, using the working title “Gotham,” and set for a 2010 release.

Other Batman casting rumors include Shia LaBeouf as Rob and Rachel Weisz as Catwoman.

Oscar buzz has surrounded The Dark Knight, with likely noms to go to the director, producers and Heath Ledger, for his turn as the Joker.

The re-release of The Dark Knight in January would also help bump up sales – possibly getting it to the $1 billion worldwide mark.

No doubt we’ll be getting clarification soon enough, but for now, check out the quote from Michael Caine.

“I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make another one?’ They said yeah. I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says ‘I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.’ I said, ‘S–t, they’ve done it again!’”

UK’s Telegraph is reporting that Cher may play Catwoman in the next Batman film, starring Christian Bale.

According to a studio executive:

“Cher is Nolan’s (director) first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years. The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry’s purring creations.”

The reason for dropping the charges? Officials say there is insufficient evidence. At most, Christian Bale is facing a caution.

Prosecutors at England’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have reviewed the case and released a statement, in part that says: “Taking all the factors into consideration, the decision has been taken that there is insufficient evidence to afford a realistic prospect of conviction, and accordingly the police have been advised that no further action should be taken against Mr. Bale.”

The Dark Knight earned $26 million over the weekend, bringing the gross to $441.5 million. That plants Dark Knight at the number three spot for the all-time box office performers.

Pineapple Express smoked out the other competition though, earning $22.4 million for its three-day opening and grabbing $30.7 million since its Wednesday release.

Is the Johnny Depp/Ridler rumor true though?

A source has commented that Batman producers “are convinced that the role of the Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny’s a pro. He’ll be able to take direction from director Chris Nolan and still make the character his own.”

Here’s hoping the Batman rumors are true… and Johnny Depp fills the Riddler role.

The last record holder that busted the $300 million line was 2006’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which snagged $300 million after 16 days.

But will The Dark Knight grab the highest-grossing film honor (besting current record holder Titanic)? Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers, thinks it just might break that record too.
