Perth, Australia, the hometown of Heath Ledger, was the location of first his service (attended by as many as 400 mourners) and then a private funeral. The service was accompanied by an Aboriginal mourning song An eulogy was given by Cate Blanchett and a speech by his sister Kate Ledger. After the private funeral, Heath’s body was cremated. Later, several service attendees including his sister Kate and Michelle Williams (his ex-fiance and mother of his daughter) swam in the ocean in honor.
Ledger died Jan 22nd in New York City of what is now being called an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.
Javier Bardem seems to have endured something very uncomfortable for the sake of his work as an actor. It seems that the haircut he was given (left) for his sadistic killer role in the award-winning No Country For Old Men caused him severe depression.
If you see regular pictures (right) of him, he’s very handsome. But for his No Country role, he’s kind of rough looking, even slightly creepy. He apparently disliked his look so much that, according to co-star Josh Brolin, Bardem thought “he wouldn’t have sex for three months” and stayed at home.
On the flipside, he’s dating lovely Penelope Cruz at the moment and will be in an on-screen threesome with her and Scarlett Johansson in Woody Allen’s upcoming Vicky Cristina Barcelona. (These two women will be making out as well.)
Randy Quaid has often played kooky characters in the movies he has appeared in. So maybe he was practicing for some new role when he reputedly acted crazy on the stage of Broadway play “Lone Star Love”. Quaid is said to have repeatedly struck an actor on the back of the head, warned other actors not to look him in the eye, and made sexually inappropriate comments. He and his wife, Evi, are said to have tried rewriting the script and eliminating characters.

So Demi Moore left Bruce Willis for young stud and professional doofus Ashton Kutcher. And Bruce hung around the new couple for years (never understood that). Now, he’s found himself a very attractive 27-year old model/ actress, Emma Hemming, who has a resemblance to Demi Moore (but is not a “spitting image” of her like the Daily Mail says.) In fact, this new couple showed up at the big 30th b-day party that Moore threw in New York City for Kutcher. (He turned 30 on Feb 7th.)
Willis is currently working several projects: Assassination of a High School President and Pinkville in 2008; The Last Full Measure and Morgan’s Summit in 2009; The Surrogates in 2010.
Filmmaker Mira Nair will be directing Hilary Swank as pilot Amelia Earhart in a biopic written by Ron Bass. Production starts in April, and Swank will be an executive producer. She’ll also be appearing in Birds of America this year, and is currently in 2007’s P.S. I Love You.
Nair is directing New York, I Love You (2008) – which she also wrote – and Shantaram (2009). She’s producing Little Zizou and Gangsta M.D., both for 2008.
The Bucket List is one of the more touching films that I’ve seen in years. It’s not the thrill ride that the trailers seem to make it out to be, but it’s an interesting, introspective, touching film that left most theater goers (when I went) with moist eyes. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman show why they’re such master actors, and the film provides a crucial twist towards the end that probably is the catalyst for all the wet eyes.

Wow! Just wow! Cher has just revealed that she dated Tom Cruise in the 80s. That’s despite the 16-year age difference. (Not like Cher hasn’t skirted that kind of age difference with other young men before.) She described him as “the most adorable man you can imagine.” Since this was before he joined Scientology, I guess he couldn’t try to convert her like he wants to do to Britney Spears.
The currently blonde 61-year old Cher is planning a visually stunning comeback in Las Vegas starting May 6th at the Colosseum, former home to Celine Dion. This consists of a 200-show deal spanning three years. Watch this video clip below to find out what other male celebs asked Cher out, and which political candidate she supports for U.S. President.
Apparently, Will Arnett of the Arrested Development TV series is no longer the voice of KITT in the upcoming Knight Rider TV movie (airs Feb 17th). While his voice is listed as finished, some contractual conflict of interest means his work cannot be used. Val Kilmer is taking over and has about a week to do the work.
Arnett’s conflict comes from the fact that he does voice for GMC truck commercials. No big deal. Arnett is in four other movies this year (Semi-Pro, Horton Hears a Who! (voice), Most Likely to Succeed, Spring Breakdown) and four in 2009 (G-Force, Space Invader, Get ‘Em Wet, We’re the Millers). He’s also possibly to appear in a theatrical movie version of Arrested Development.
Eva Mendes, who entered rehab at Cirque Lodge in Utah on her own in January, is taking a bit of a break for personal reasons and will re-enter in a few days. Cirque is the same place that Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate Olsen have stayed, and where Kirsten Dunst has just entered.
Jennifer Lopez has admitted that she’s having a boy and a girl, and that the due date is about Feb 23rd. [PageSix.com]
The success of The Simpsons theatrical movie (2007) means that there’ll likely be a sequel. Except that the current WGA writers’ strike is delaying planning. In the meantime, watch for a special Valentines episode airing Feb 17th. [Buddy TV]
Larry David, co-creator of Seinfeld and creator of Curb Your Enthusiasm TV series, will be in an as yet unnamed Woody Allen movie with Evan Rachel Wood. [Hollywood Insider]

Heath Ledger’s apartment, which rents for $25,000/month, is reportedly already back on the market. It’s understandable that the owner has a mortgage to pay, but hopefully they don’t advertise it as his apartment, to profit. Though I can’t imagine too many fans can afford that price. (My guess: some crazy rockstar with a death fetish is going to take it.)
Ledger died in his apartment on Jan 22nd of an accidental overdose due to prescription drug abuse. The U.S. federal government’s DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) will be launching a probe into how he managed to get so many prescription drugs. The common opinion is that more than one doctor (or friend?) would be involved.
