Hordes of inconsiderate paparazzi have invaded Aspen, Colorado, where actress Goldie Hawn sometimes lives with companion and actor Kurt Russell. She feels unsafe when she goes into town, from her nearby ranch in Old Snowmass – to the point where she talked to the mayor about it. The mayor’s response? Turn the tables and photograph the paparazzi back. Because, he said, anything authorities would probably make things worse, including people wielding the First Amendment.

It’s so easy for the rest of us to forget that celebrities in fact are human and that the cost of their “privilege” is sometimes an unending lack of privacy. Britney Spears has probably had to deal with this more than any other young celebrity at present – to the point where paparazzi are physically in her way when she’s trying to escape. While this is all the more reason to use a chauffer and a limo with tinted windows, it’s not practical all the time.

Says Hawn, referring to the paparazzi that exist thanks to gossip rags and blogs,

They use you to fill content. They’re stealing your person.
