Mike Myers, 2008 MTV Movie Awards
The MTV Movie Awards are this Sunday and I know a lot of people think they’re a silly awards event, but I personally love them. No stuffy uptight red carpet gowns, no tearful acceptance speeches — just pure fun. So, why tune in? Here are my top reasons – 5 great things about the 2008 MTV Movie Awards:

1. Short Films – Undeniably, the short films are the best part of the show and really break up the cheesy presenter speeches that clog the works (and get few laughs). The 2008 MTV Movie Awards promises some great movie shorts too, with Ben Stiller, Mike Myers, Robert Downey Jr., Adam Sandler and Jack Black all getting in on the fun. Some of my favorite moments from the past MTV Movie Awards have been Ben Stiller’s short films.

C’mon, Ben Stiller as Tom Crooze?

2. Cool Categories – Forget about best acting… what about best kiss? That’s the category that movie fans really want to know. Other categories include Best Fight, Best Villain and Best Summer Movie So Far.

3. Host Mike Myers – Mike Myers never fails to pull out all the comedic stops, plus he’s got loads of energy to back it up. Sure, he’s plugging The Love Guru, but aren’t most of the stars there to promote something?

4. Musical Guests and Celebrity A-listers – Coldplay! The Pussycat Dolls! Okay, mostly just Coldplay, but I guess the Pussycat Dolls have some – ahem – appeal. Presenters include Will Ferrell, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lindsay Lohan, Steve Carell, Robert Downey Jr. and Seth Rogen.

5. MTV Movie Awards Opening Spoof – Who doesn’t look forward to the movie spoof? Even if it’s half as good as last year’s MTV Movie Awards opening with Sarah Silverman (watch video below), it’ll rock:
